Our History

The opening of the Jivani House-Museum solved a very important and relevant task for its time, first, from the point of view of preserving the spiritual and cultural values of the Armenians of Javakhk, and then of all Armenians.

The Foundation “Support of Javakheti”, emphasizing the need for the revival of cultural life and the development of tourism in Javakheti, assigns a key place in its strategy to the creation of cultural centers. Even today, we can state that the Jivani House-Museum in Kartsakh has brought the village to life in a unique way, stimulated the flow of tourists to Kartsakh and changed the general atmosphere and mood of the village with its cultural events.

Schedule

Jivani dedicated us to the Ashugh art and was rightly called “the founder of the Armenian Ashugh school”.

2014

In order to coordinate the work on the creation of the museum in December 2014, a corresponding commission was formed, which included a number of social and cultural figures, art historians and musicians. Under the leadership of the Honored Architect of the Republic of Armenia Hovhannes Mutafyan, a group of specialized specialists was sent to Kartsakh several times to draw up architectural and construction projects of the house-museum.

As planned, in July 2015, as part of the Jivanic Day celebration, at the initiative of the Support to Javakheti Foundation, the foundation-laying ceremony for the Ashug Jivani house-museum was held. In the presence of the leadership of the Javakhk regions and guests from Armenia and Tbilisi, a cylinder with a note was placed on the wall, thus announcing the start of construction.

In the central part of the exhibition hall is the bust of Jivani, in the right and left parts of which are the famous violin and kaman of Jivani. The back part of the bust, as a symbol of the immortal song of Jivani ("I am one apricot tree") and the eternity of the Armenian people, is completely shrouded in the image of an apricot tree, on which the Jivani manuscript reflects the quatrains song of Ashug "Hovik".In the exhibition hall, a special place is occupied by photos of great Armenians and foreigners who appreciated Jivani or are closely connected with ashug by their life and work. The best performers and songwriters of ashug from different years are also included in the exhibition.
